Has anyone moved countries with large figure collection?

$

Has anyone ever moved countries with a rather large collection of toy soldiers?

I have a dilemma. I have a rather large collection of my late fathers with just about every type of toy soldier under the sun.. Some of them are very sentimental to me as I remember my father painting and collecting things when I was younger and then of course I took on my father business.

I have the opportunity to move countries at the end of the year, buy a house with a bit of land and some space for my business but I am trying to figure out the logistics of moving what is valuable to me and on selling the stuff that is not and I don't even know where to start.

Are there any members with a largish collection that have moved countries and how did you choose what to bring and what to leave and how did you pack and store everything so that it didn't get broken because honestly if I have to repair thousands of figures that will be the end of me lol.

Look forward to hearing everyone's suggestions

Figure Manufacturing Companies Index

Friends from pF

I´ve decided to create this thread to help we, modellers, finding a specifc company and, specially, to "spread the word" about the small companies, that sometimes have great stuff but are little known to the public.

I have this impression by my own experience. Everyone knows Andrea Miniatures or Pegaso Models, for example, but there are small companies with true jewels out there, like UP Miniaturen (from my friend Ulrich Puchala), Maurice Corry, Gordon Mitchells, etc, etc.

So, with the authorization of our C-in-C Gordy, i created this thread, that have the purpose of helping modellers, not "marketing" or something like that.

Now, the fun part: everyone will help. I started the thread, but i do not know all companies. So, you know/own a company and did not saw it here? Post it, i will edit the initial post and we can keep the index up to date.

Disclaimer 1: I decided to not include compnies no longer in production to not cause confusion in the list

Disclaimer 2: Since the qualification of a company as "big" or "small" is subjective, any company can be listed here.

Disclaimer 3: Nor i nor planetFigure are endorsing any of these companies; sometimes one can have a bad experience with a company or a store, but that is a matter for other thread.

That is it, i hope that you guys like the idea and help it!

Filipe from Brazil :)

First legion (Russia) - News

Finally something unpainted from "First Legion" ...:

Title: French Voltigeur 1812 / Retreat from Russia
Scale: 75 mm
White metal
Sculptor: M. Voronín
Order number: FL7504

The stolen silver clasp of an icon that the guy strapped down on his knapsack is a nice gimmick!

The thing is sculpted so precisely ...

...... that you can even assign!

The silver fittings belonged to an icon that showed Holy Nicholas, who was (and is!) portrayed in Russian sacral art this way.

Here a comparable and equally old piece ...:

Trumpeter, French Grenadiers a Cheval

After an enforced absence from the bench due to a house move finally getting back to work with the paint and brushes trying to make a dent in the grey army. This is my attempt at CGS's Grenadier a cheval trumpeter. This is my first CGS figure and I have been impressed with the quality of the sculpt/casting and the ease with which things have gone together so far.

I've used oils over enamels and you'll probably notice the blue of the jacket is still a little shiny-I initially tried a colour combo for the jacket which I wasn't entirely happy with and as a result I've just re done it using a mix I found by searching on the site ( mix courtesy of Mental Dental). Hopefully the sheen will start to fade as the oils dry. There's still a lot to do but enjoying being back in the "saddle" so to speak.View attachment 305093 View attachment 305094 View attachment 305095 View attachment 305096

OK, I like to do figure groupings in 3's. Two is too few, 4 is too even, 3 is JUST right.So...I want to do a little vignette in 75mm of Minutemen at Concord in 1775, watching from Punkatasset hill just a short ways from the Old North Bridge. These 2 are a go:

I wanted this guy as my third, but apparently he is as rare as the proverbial hens teeth:

This guy might work, but I wanted somethiing looking a litte more in the leadership department, a focus of the group:

Anyone have any suggestions for other figs that might fit the bill? Remember,75mm. Thanks!

Hi all,

I dug out the (now out of production ?) Tommys War Captain 2nd Bn S.Wales Borderers Tsingtao 1914 Bust, had a few figures / busts all bundled together in a poly bag after a move and have started on him. Could anyone help with the colour of the uniform and the Pith Helmet please, i cannot remember if TW had a SBS for him or just the Privateer Bust.

Our Grand Tour

My wife and I are taking six months off to travel around the world and while we are "on the road" I'm hoping to meet as many Planeteers as I can.

We leave Australia at the end of February and start our adventure in South Africa Where we'll be going on safari in Kruger National Park and diving with Great White Sharks off Cape Town.

We'll be in Athens 17-27 March and after that our plans are a bit loose. The rough plan is to island hop through Greece up the Dalmatian coast to Venice by mid-April. From there we will travel down the East coast of Itsly to Malta and then up the west coast to Rome.

We then go to Vancouver in May for a family wedding before going back to Europe in mid May and will travel through Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Denmark and Belgium between May and early July.

In early July we fly from London to Montreal and drive across Canada. We're then booked on the Inside Passage cruise up the western Pacific coast of BC.

In late July we fly to Auckland in New Zealand and spent two weeks in New Zealand visiting most of the locations where Lord of the Rings was filmed.

In early August we return to Australia via a short stop over in Brisbane.

The purpose of proving all this information is to give you a sense of roughly where I'm going and when I'll be there in case you'd like to catch up with me. I'd welcome any offers of accomodation and I'd love to attend any model shows while I'm travelling through Europe.

This is a trip of a life time for my wife and I and I'd love to meet some of my friends from Planet Figure while we're travelling around Planet Earth.

Hi guys,

Just some pics of my latest project, depicting a bust of my Grandad, when he was a young soldier in the Royal Corps of Signals, based in Shanghai, as part of the Shanghai Defence Force in 1927. For a long time I have had the photo on my wall and have long wanted to make a model of some sort.

Based on a Tommy's War kit, the mods have included reshaping the Wolseley helmet with addition of Signals flash, adding more length to the upper arms to include the brassard, reshape the collar and add collar dogs, alter the face slightly, reshape pocket flaps and add new buttons. all mods done using Milliput/Duro.

All painted in acrylics, thanks for looking,

Steve

I'm reluctantly selling Galapago's 90mm Harbinger of Death,as i've cleaned it up and primed it with grey and white primer, and it looks great without any paint, but i'll never get round to painting it,hence the sale £50 free U.K. delivery.
I'm also selling Altores Studio's 54mm Mongol Archer, and again he's all primed and ready to paint. £15
