Hi fellow resin rumblers,

Mookies Miniatures have been busy in the last year releasing items which depicted RM soldiers in the Falklands War

I reviewed the 1st release here:

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/sbs-rm-1982-from-mookies-miniatures-ltd.112316/

There has also been another FI subject release which the owner of Mookies ( our very own Richard Pearce aka Maximus37 here on PF ) announced here :

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads...0th-royal-marine-45-cdo-falklands-war.115514/

We also have a set of personalised heads from the company announced here:

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/mookies-miniatures-new-release-falklands-war-head-set.112750/

For our period on this release we are took back to the very late part of WW2 where the Free French Army was in existance and fighting hard , with leaders and personalities like the subject of this review:

Philippe Kieffer

But who was the man:

Philippe Kieffer was 40 years old when he volunteered for active military service in French Navy after it declared war on Germany in September 1940.
He requested authorization to create an all-French Cdo unit adopting the same model of training and structure as british units.

Their methods of selection typified the harshness of special forces training, and several men died as they struggled to complete the course. They become known as the ‘1st Company of Naval Rifles,’ organized into the No. 10 Inter Allied commando unit, made up of Dutch, Polish Belgian, Norwegian and Mediterranean units.

By 1944, Philippe Kieffer’s command had grown into two troops and had been integrated with Britain’s No.4 Commando as part of the 1st Special Service Brigade under Lord Lovat. It was this unit that came ashore on June 6, 1944 and provided the 176 men led by Kieffer himself

Wearing the green beret like his men, Kieffer, recently promoted to Capitaine de Corvette (Leuitenant-Commander), personally led them off landing craft at 0731 hours. This time there would be no retreat into the sea, as they waded in under shelling that seemed to increase by the minute. In the midst of this, they heard the sound of Lord Lovat’s piper Bill Millin’s bagpipes urging more of the 1st Brigade on, but not before some 40 commando's were killed or wounded as they reached the end of Sword beach.

Counting those lost on the beach, the commandos suffered 21 dead and 93 wounded. Kieffer himself had been hit by shrapnel at the start of action but continued on as an example to his troops. He finally visited a medical facility two days later, but checked out on June 14 to rejoin his men as they continued fighting during the Normandy breakout and the race towards Paris. Here Philippe Kieffer and two of his men made history by being the first of the Free French Forces to enter the city.

After the war he continued in service in headquarters , on retiring often seen at parades with the modern army of France in particular his beloved commando's

Philippe Kieffer passed away in 1962

Hi pF!

Official information about release of new 75 mm metal kit is here.
FL7504 French Voltigeur - Russia 1812

http://www.firstlegionltd.com/FL7504.aspx
We decided create this guy as brave Soldier not like usual ragged French during the Retreat from Russia. This guy is marodeur but he kept his positive nature even during all troubles during his way back.
A lot of details can add more pleasure for all Napoleonic collectors and painters.
Enjoy !:)

Cheers,
Constantine

This is my next attempt at a smaller bust, from Fer range. No assembly, just drilling and pegging to the base. The guy certainly had a gaunt look in real life. The complication in painting is the striping on the body robe,if I stick to the boxart. Also many folds to show on the head dress fabric.....
Face completed.......

Stormtroopers,,,the good,,,the bad & the ugly

Hi All

An odd title but something that has been bouncing about for a while now.

Some may have noticed that the shop is looking a little empty !!! Also the website is new.

I have been struggling of late to keep up with everything what with a day job, living and the fact that troop54 has taken over / blossomed of late.

Troop54 was always a gamble for me but also a new venture to pull away from my fellow manufacturers all doing the same thing. Over the last 3 years since the idea was founded it has grown steadily and now takes over most of my time. It seams this has also not gone unnoticed by other manufacturers too.

Stormtroopers was quite frankly grinding to a halt. 120mm sales just dropped off a cliff and I got bored of being told they were too dear,,,no offers etc etc etc. The same started to happen with busts. Its like driving down a road, you know whats going to happen. Sure enough it has.

Couple this with the effect of recasting and its pretty crap to be honest. Recasting not only takes sales but it changes peoples mind set. Mainly cost,,,why pay that,,,I'll wait,,it will be recast soon. Robbin sods charging that,,,If the recasters can do it why cant they. The list is endless. This just drains the life out of you and the WHY of doing it. I suppose this is the Ugly bit.

The bad....I have decided to take a hatchet to stormtroopers and bring it in line with whats possible and down to core products. The sale of the masters is already underway. I don't particularly like this but I cant keep grey armies. Moulds just don't keep and remoulding is not an option for me. The Victorias Heroes range will also be removed and reborn this year. If you want one then they will be there for a while and then deleted.

The good,,,the new website is done. This may yet change further. I have plans going forward and am devoted to keeping it going. New masters are in preparation. I will be making 1 or 2 moulds and then they will be shelved or deleted. Busts sales have slowed dramatically,,,recasters I guess,,,maybe mine are just not popular...hence a more limited run.

Victorias Heroes is to be reborn with new masters. They are being sculpted already. I bought the parts and name and thought the kits would appeal,,,sadly not, so they are being withdrawn. A decision based purely on demand.

This is very much a head and heart point...good in parts ...The ugly side of what our hobby has done and the bad which is a hard thing to do.

I thought now was the best time to do this and the future is hopefully a better one

Cheers

Stuart

POTUS - a Fake...?

It has already been noticed by many investigative journalists that POTUS (The President of the United States) usually only works from Tuesday to Thursday and is otherwise absent.

However, everyone thought he would be playing golf in Mar-a-Lago ...:

Completely fake news!

In fact, POTUS stays in the northwest of Spain (Europe), where he lives under the name Dolores Leis Antelo in the village of Cabana de Bergantinos as a vegetable peasant woman ...:
